The Be’eri Gallery Prize was launched in 2021 at Fresh Paint art fair.
Each year, from among the artists selected for the Independent Artists’ Greenhouse, we choose one outstanding artist — who demonstrates strong artistic and professional abilities, as well as the potential to present a solo exhibition at our gallery.
The prize includes a financial grant to support the exhibition’s production costs, an artist’s fee , close curatorial guidance, and the production of a catalog accompanying the exhibition.
This year’s winning artist is Yael Hovav.
Hovav paints in oil on canvas using thin, translucent layers that accumulate like intrusive thoughts. Her work is composed of delicate stains and meticulous, hand-drawn gestures made entirely with a brush.
In her choice of imagery, she seeks moments of spiritual pleasure: intense light, complex emotion, and human connection. For her, these are explorations of intimacy — attempting to enter the subtle spaces that proximity creates between a person and themselves, and between one person and another. Her layered figures exist on various planes of presence and absence, of tangibility and elusiveness.
Hovav’s solo exhibition will take place at Be’eri Gallery in February–March 2024.
